Try 3/19/77 Winterland WHY AINT IT HERE?

1st set closes: Terrapin> Playin> Samson> Playin

2nd set opens: Eyes> Dancin> Wharf Rat> Franklins> Sugar Mag

A top ten for '77

The night before is none too shabby either - sweet Half-Step, Sugaree and Peggy-O in the first set; Terrapin and the one and only Alhambra plus NFA/St Stephen in the second set - and guess what? It isn't here either. What gives with that?

Ha--probably because I was there! Actually, this run is one I am not sure of...all I know is that I went to one or two around this time at Winterland. Liked the 75 shows a bit better, but 77 was good, and fall of 78 was even better. At least that is how I remember it. Sometime I have to figure out the shows I went to during 76-78 at Winterland and check out the sets, sound, etc., here at LMA or wherever to see what I think of them now with all my early era biases.

I second Jerrob's nomination of 4/23/77. Unreal Scarlet>Fire AND a killer Help>Slip>Frank all in the same show. Great Bertha and other tunes as well. Crowd ripped and roaring. An amazing show overshadowed by the best single month/year in the band's histoy that followed.

Honorable mention to 3/20/77. Contains what is possibly the best stand-alone SCARLET ever played.
